Parks and Recreation Commission Overview

FOCASThe Parks and Recreation Commission (PARC) is a Town Council-appointed Commission which oversees the public parks and recommends and organizes events and activities for Fairfax residents.

Some of the events PARC sponsors are the Brewfest, annual Egg Hunt in Bolinas Park, the Fairfax Festival & Parade in June, a Halloween party for children, and art shows by the Artist-in-Resident. PARC also considers sponsorship of special one time events that benefit the community as a whole. To be considered for a special event, an application must be submitted to PARC, 60 days in advance and approved by the Commission at a regularly scheduled meeting.

PARC includes a parent based group that conducts quarterly clean-ups of Peri Park Playground, including identifying maintenance and equipment repair requests which are performed by the Public Works Department.

The Town Council appoints an Artist in Residence who is given art studio space in the Pavilion in exchange for offering art classes and other activities to the community.

PARC offers many classes, activities and events through Fairfax Recreation (formerly FOCAS) for newborn ages through seniors, including Fairfax Moms, Birthday Party Rentals, Camp Fairfax, Fairfax Youth Club and the Monthly Senior Luncheon.  For more information, please contact Anne Mannes at 415-458-2340 or see the Fairfax Recreation website for upcoming classes and events.

Age Friendly Fairfax Task Force

The Town of Fairfax has been a part of the Global Network of Age Friendly Cities by the World Health Organization since early 2015.  We formed our Age Friendly Task Force of community members to plan activities, improvements, and programs of special interest to seniors in an effort to promote healthy and active aging. The Task Force meets every month on the 4th Friday at the Bennett House at 53 Taylor Drive from 9:15 -10:30am. Meetings are open to the public, so please feel free to join us. For more info, contact Anne Mannes, or visit  https://extranet.who.int/agefriendlyworld/network/fairfax/. For info on the chairman, click here.
