Does a storage shed require a permit?

A storage shed that is 120 square feet or less in size, that does not have electricity, windows or plumbing, will not require a building permit but may require the approval of discretionary planning permits. Make sure you contact the Planning Department with a site plan showing the size, included improvements, and proposed location of your shed before erecting/placing it on your property to make sure it does not require the review and approval of the Planning Commission. The shed must still comply with required building setbacks and maximum allowed building square footage (floor area ratio) for the subject property, and the property must meet the minimum size and width requirements for the zone it is in, even if it does not require the issuance of a building permit.
