Rent Stabilization and Just Cause Eviction Implementation Cost Estimates

Fairfax Rent Stabilization and Just Cause Eviction Ordinances were adopted in November 2022 and became effective December 2, 2022. Changes to the ordinances were adopted by the Town Council on September 6, 2023, effective October 6, 2023.

The ordinances are in effect. To begin the program, a Town Council resolution authorizing implementation is needed.

The following estimated costs have not been included in the adopted FY2023-24 Budget, nor have estimated revenues from the associated permit fees.

Registration system platform $25,000 set up costs, $25,000 annual service
Staff to review/approve registration platform submissions, manage program contractors, provide Town expertise New staff is needed for this program, but it is unclear how many staff are needed at this time
