At the October 16, 2024, Town Council meeting, Sandra Adler Killen was honored as the Town of Fairfax’s 2024 Citizen of the Year. Sandy, a long-time resident of Fairfax, was recognized for her extraordinary dedication to providing healthcare services both locally and globally as a pediatric emergency room nurse and lactation consultant.
Unfortunately, Sandy was unable to attend the meeting in person to receive her award, as she had been called back to Gaza on October 5th to continue her work providing critical healthcare services in the region amidst the ongoing conflict. Sandy’s friend, Erinn Lance, attended the meeting on her behalf and accepted the award.
Sandy’s contributions are not just limited to the Fairfax community. She has selflessly served in disaster zones around the world, including Gaza, Syria, Turkey, Mexico, and Puerto Rico, offering medical care and hope to people in crisis situations. Her recent humanitarian work with the Palestine Red Crescent Society in Gaza exemplifies her unwavering commitment to helping those in need, even in the most challenging and dangerous environments.
In recognition of her service and the profound impact she has made both within our town and across the globe, the Town Council has officially proclaimed October 16, 2024, as Sandy Adler Killen Day in Fairfax.
