Street Sweeping

Street sweeping is essential for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our community. It helps remove dirt, metals, petroleum products, garbage, and vegetation that accumulate on our streets and paths. Additionally, it prevents pollution and reduces the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall by keeping storm drains clear.

Help Keep Fairfax's Streets and Drains Clean

While we take proactive steps to clean storm drains and areas with heavy leaf fall before significant fall and winter storms, we encourage residents to contribute to keeping drains free from heavy leaf buildup. Here's how you can do your part:

  • Rake leaves and either compost them, bag them for recycling, or place them in green waste containers for removal.
  • Do not sweep materials into the streets or along curbsides.
  • Remember to move your car on street sweeping days.

Yard Waste and Leaf Disposal

Dispose of yard waste and leaves by composting or using your green cart. Each resident is allowed up to two compostable carts as part of their rate and can rent up to an additional 4 carts for a nominal fee. Residents are no longer allowed to place personally owned containers or paper bags out at the curb for service.
