Shortened Terms of Office for Officials Elected in the November 2017 & November 2019 Elections

On May 3, 2017, the Fairfax Town Council adopted Ordinance No. 807 to move the Town’s municipal elections from November of odd-numbered years to November of even-numbered years, as required by State law.  The change was phased in by electing Town officers for 3-year terms in the 2017 and 2019 two election cycles, to expire in 2020 and 2022, respectively. In the November 2020 and 2022 elections, the offices on the ballot returned to the regular 4-year terms.

Compensation

Each Councilmember receives a monthly stipend of $300 per month for their service.  PublicPay offers detailed information about the Town Council’s compensation.  Councilmembers receive no other benefits from the Town, other than the Town pays the employer share for retirement.

Positions with Additional Compensation

Council members may participate in a decision to appoint themselves to a position that will result in additional compensation to them, subject to conditions stated in Regulation 18705.5 (Regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission, Title 2, Division 6, California Code of Regulations). One of these conditions is that the Town Council post Form 806, which identifies each position the council appoints for which compensation is paid, the salary or stipend for each position, and the names of each official who has been appointed as the agency’s representative, or alternate.
